Hi All,

Recently purchased the starter pack for use on my HTPC with XBMC and thought i would share my experience so far and hopefully get some suggestions too.

The installation went perfectly.. i started following the wiki guide for install on win 7 x86 but most of it was redundant as the hardware was all picked up fine.

XBMC was detected by the software and i've set it to the "racer" profile.. not too sure if this is the best one yet but it seems ok.

I was a little dissapointed at first as the wall washer seemed to be very innefective.. i was watching videos on youtube of it all running and mine just didn't seem as bright..It wasn't until i realised that the screens in all the videos were PC monitors and mine is a 42" TV.. i've put the washer on top of a couple of boxes so it's about 3/4 of the TV's height and i get a much better effect now.

I have noticed that my side pod lights are slightly different colors.. i think the right (as you look at it) isn't giving off as much blue.. also when the screen goes black, the left one seems to be a very dim green rather than off completely but this may be something to do with the videos i am playing..

Does anyone else have any experience with xbmc and are able to share their setups with me?

Hi danmed,

XBMC should really show up as a media player in your control panel so you can select from the media player profiles. This might be a bug on our side so I'll look into it. The racer profile puts a lot more emphasis on the sides of the screen (and therefore the side lights) than it does with the wallwashers and the top of the screen effects. This is to really get a feeling of speed from racing games. You might be better off trying RPG for the moment as this should give a more all-round spread of lighting effects.

Thanks,

Tasker

HI Tasker,

It does show up as an app, but nothing i can see in reference to profiles..just the gaming ones.. perhaps it's because i'm using the latest SVN of XBMC and not the stable version?

Hi all

Hate for my first post to be a negative but i have the same issue as danmed,

XBMC only shows as an app and not a media player & non of the gaming profiles seem to get near to that of using a program like VLC that has true media profile

Is there anyway to alter profiles via Regedit or do you guys have some kind of profile editor we could use?

Cheers
Gizmo

Gizmo, i'm guessing that it will be a registry setting to be honest, i'll take a look and get back to you.. good idea..

Hey danmed

No joy im afraid ive altered the reg enteries for XBMC to reflect those of VLC and while its Group changes to media i can still only select profiles based on gaming.......also tryed altering paths/file names but no luck seems abmx is using somekind of exe profile checking

ATM ive settled on using FPS for more action/fastpace films and RPG for more standard stuff, still hopeing we'll get an update for some kind of profile editor soon though

Cheers
Gizmo
