The combustd library and applications are being transitioned to C++, the ruby-usb bindings have proven not to be very usable due to them being unfinished. This also allows us to create binaries, which means you guys will get a few applications you can run instead of some running from source code after installing dependencies.

This does however mean a small delay in plans, but you can follow progress on the aforementioned url. For the ruby applications, which are workable, you can checkout the /branches/combustd-ruby-0.1 post. Note that the hosted wiki on googlecode does provide all instructions you will need to run the current combustd sample applications with boblight on linux, and the testcode on mac.

Hi there guys, great progress over here I see. I have a question about the ambx light controller:

what does the automatic control setting do, does it continuesly show all the colors or will it take the avarage screen color?

can't hook the system up (not at home) so that's why I am asking :)

Manual control allows you to set it manually to a single color. Automatic control allows you to cycle trough the colors, which are all colors or a cold / warm profile, which you can select on the right part of the screen.

Maybe you could set it up on sourceforge so others can work on it? Then it could progress even if you're short of time to work on it. And it would have a central place of discussion too... would be so great if the rest of the features were added!

I agree with the above, I might know some people who can work on this if the source was available!

So, we believe that is a great idea. I contacted Estilita about it, and he agrees to open source the light controller. Give us a few days to arrange things.

Wow, that's great news. So we can suggest new stuff via tickets :)

Hi guys,

The ambx-lightcontroller application I developed was officially open-sourced.
I'de like to thank to djmirage who had all the work in order to put this on googlecode. Thanks to him everyone can now browse and download code and the latest binary from:
http://code.google.com/p/ambx-lightcontroller/

I hope this encourages more people on trying to build a full featured media application for the MacOS.
Happy Coding :p

Regards,
Estilita

yesterday I've installed xp on my macbook and played PoP Two Thrones. ambx automatically adjusted the colors of the lights, which was absolutely great. I know this is the main purpose of these devices, but it looked really great.

I don't think it is necessary to have something like that for games, but for watching movies and series, it woulde be awesome (on mac os x of course).

The light controller is quite great and working good, but it has its own project page now. DGTL Magician was working on a filter or an extra app for adjusting the colors with the screen or movie I suppose. Is it an extra project?

Okay here is the confusing part; DGTL Magician was working on some applications that used combustd (my project). His implementations we're mostly cross platform. However the interesting part is using boblight (an application by a third party) to analyse the screen, and then send that data into combustd. Boblight doesn't run on mac currently.

So what is there for now ?
- ambx-lightcontroller by Estilita. It allows you to cycle trough colors or manually set a color.
- libcombustd - a library in ruby and soon in c++ to control your set on all platforms. together with libcombustd there are sample applications, for instance a tcp/ip and udp server, a command line application for setting colors and DGTL Magician's boblight implementation on top of combustd.

For now it is taking a bit more development time to finish all these projects, but the great part is that everything so far is open source. You can contribute or look at these projects yourself, using the urls in previous posts.

Didn't notice this before, truly AWESOME work. Excellent protocol reference for the devices too. Will try it on my MacBook Pro.

This thread should be cast in gold and stickied.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Maybe the ambx admins should have a link to the main download page. The only solution before this thread was using Parallels...

Hi,
Im currently working on amBX for Mac. Thanks to the source code of Estillta, it should be easy for me to add some great new features. The first new version adds amBX light flashing and a German translation. Also with the new version you don't have to "connect" always to your amBX device, just turn the light on or off.
Here is a screenshot (sorry for the German language):

If you want to support me, just buy Written.. in the AppStore ;) It is a fast typing game for the iPad (and soon for iPhone) from Adrian and me.

I will upload the new version next week. I can´t tell you, if I can realize the vlc support, but I am trying it.

Oh and btw, the audio support shouldn't be so hard to program. Maybe I will try it next week.

Regards,
Florian
