I bought this set a while ago in order to turn my mac to a media center. It was on ibood, so I didn't have enough time to check throughly about os x support. I thought that there are settings on the device itself to adjust some ambient light. But it lacks basic things like sound setting.

As a mac user, I would like to continue using this set because I like the sound. But writing a small driver or an application for setting some light effect or adjusting sound shouldn't be so difficult.

I know this set is designed for games but actually not everybody play games :) I would be very glad for a status update...

yes yes, a mac driver would be excellent. mainly id just like to listen to music; running the lights would be a nice extra.

perhaps if the developers wont program a driver they could instruct me to a guide where i could find information to program it myself

thank you

There is an SDK, but it's Windows only too. If you're really good, you might be able to write a wrapper for it. If you don't mind using a Windows music player, you could use a Windows emulator. If it's possible to record sound from the mac within the emulator you might even be able to use the music player on the Apple side. Not having a Mac, I don't know what the limits of the emulation are.
Take a look at the Wiki for all those questions you didn't dare ask.

Yesterday I spent couple of hours for testing ambx on various virtualization programs. It works on Parallels as well as VMWare. But I don't like to give 25% of my memory and processor power to run windows in background only to be able to see some light in my ambx set. Interesting though, after closing Vmware, the lights didn't turn off, so I was able to watch a movie with lights on.

Still, it is very complicated and inefficient method. I was using my boot camp partition for that, but I'll try with a dedicated windows image.

I would make a donation as well for a driver or utility.

By the way, I've tried with crossover but no luck.

same here! i was desperate to get it to work on my mac but nothing but parallels would work... i ended up downloading macdrive for windows and running boot camp so i could access all my songs on my mac partition within windows. so now i can listen to all the songs from my itunes library with windows media player and get the light fx working great! now i have my entire library when i play Team Fortress 2!

but still... a mac port would be greatly appreciated!

Today I've installed Windows on a virtual disk file (instead of using boot camp) and tried media player classic and klite in order to be able to watch some series and movies with the ambx dynamic light effects. I've tried lots of guides and tricks, but neither media player classic nor vlc wasn't able to show these effects. I haven't tried it on boot camp yet, but it seems it doesn't work with parallels.

I really began to consider buying an atom ion nettop to be able to use media center applications.

Today I've tried VMWare again.

This time I was successful to play VLC in OpenGL format, but although I gave all of the resources to the VMWare, it couldn't play the video with acceptable frame rate. The effects worked though.

Summary of all my work is:

Any virtualization system under OS X is only for setting the light color.

So, if any mac os x user considering to buy the system should keep in mind, that in order to be able to use this set fully, one should install windows in boot camp and play this way. Any other way is only for setting the light, or ambient lightning. Dynamic effects should be forgotten on OS X.

I am not expecting an os x driver.

Just bought a premium amBX system today. I must say the sound it produces is great.

To get on topic... I would love to see some Mac support even in the simplest matter. Speakers and lights that's all I need :P

Getting it to work trough bootcamp is no problem what soever but that's not really the point of owning a mac now is it ;)

Big thumbs up to the amBX technique... hope it gets adapted on a wider scale soon cause its worth it!

I really want a mac support, too! The sound works (of course…), but what is with the light? I would be already happy when I just can control the light with a simple tool. I dont need suport for movies and so, but I want to use the lights for a nice atmosphere in my room!
It cant be so difficult to write such a program, specially when you are familiar with programming and the ambx system. Come on ambx developer! :(
Please!

Has anyone tried to use WINE on a Mac, along with USB drivers?
