amBX Control for the iPhone

Postby placa » Mon Mar 22, 2010 10:00 am

Hello everybody,

after I have searched for a app to change my amBX light thorough my iPhone and I couldn't find one, I've started to work on my own.

Right now I'm able to control my lights over 3 RGB sliders or by rotating my phone (every axis is a color).
The service-server on the PC runs under WinXP - Win7 (JUST 32BIT!) right now. I'm thinking of releasing it in around 2-3 weeks, of course for free.

What i want from you now, are some ideas! What would you like to do, if you could control your amBX over your iPhone? Any special feature?

Thank you very much for your help!

Have a nice day,
Placa

Nice work! waiting 4 the 64b version.

It would be cool if you had a colorwheel like Philips LivingColors :)

Hi placa,

Sounds like a great idea!
What I'm thinking is what if you could make and/or manage different atmospheres / illuminate presets from your iPhone?
Another idea is perhaps controlling the light with the accelerometer of the iPhone? Lighting can then change in accordance with your movements (when you are carrying or holding you iPhone). This might create some sort of cool dancing experience... light reacting to your dancing style? (this sort of relates to your idea, but perhaps you could also use directional movement instead of only rotational as input for the light color and intensity?).

I'll give it some more thoughts...

Hi,

I'm thinking of making the interface look much like the Philips Remote. It is my first iPhone app, so it could take 2-3 weeks.

The accelerometer is already in use, as i wrote in my first post, (x axis = red etc). You can directly use it to color up your dance :)

Now here is a little video I took for a friend (wait for youtube to make it accessible) :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVRDMY9JcwQ

The idea of the program is, to just trigger a function at the server programm which then will do all the controling stuff and maybe do some flashing or atmospheric lighting.

Which means you can start the app, change the style of your amBX and close it again. So no need for running it all the time on the iPhone.

Good night guys =)

Edit : Little game idea :
- Accelerometer active.
- Then all coordinates of the accelerometer get swapped (random color->axis)
- Task => "Color your amBX #COLOR#"
- The fastest will win.
Would be fun :D

Hey Everybody,

after some other projects I had to do, I invested my time today totally for my Control-App.
I'm thinking I will give it over to Apple around next week, if everything works fine. I give you a little peak of what it looks like right now. The background will be changed, but it will use the same style. The is semi-transparent, so it shows you the Color you have picked.

Is it ok for amBX/Philips to use there Lights? :)

Hi placa,
This looks great. I have some questions / ideas concerning the possibilities of the application, but I'll wait with putting these forward till I have used and experienced the first version of your app.
Any idea when we might expect this to show up in the App Store? :D

Hey Pals,

sry for the long abstinence. Much to do at work and home. Also I've got my new MacBook Pro, so things will got faster from here. (I programmed the whole program under a Mac VM, you can guess for yourself how much fun this makes :D )

The main stuff is finished, and works great. Still having some performance problem with the Server. Somebody with C# knowledge could give me help?

I'm at work right now, so i don't have a pic of the finished interface, but this is really near of how it looks like right now. Hope you like it.

Still on track for a free release. I will hand it over to Apple sometime around the week.

No, they have given me permission. But a amBX Admin reminded me that there are much more products coming out for the amBX System and my App is not just for the Phillips Lights.
So I think a "Color Universe" is the right way to present the color. :)

I will also release a little little script to control the server back-end from a Mac.

#OffTopic:
I've bought a mac to do some iPhone projects. I always thought that they are overpriced. But now, with a macbook on my table, I have no needs to boot up my quad-core-desktop-pc ever again.
Everything makes for fun. Surfing, PhotoShop, Programming .... Never thought that I will end up as a AppleFanBoy :-! ;)

...still need C# help, don't like the way .net handles sockets :(

Nice Day ;)
