I have had extensive installation/crashes with installing AMBX on Philips Premium kit before finally streamlining and getting everything working. Just thought I will share my experience.
I have a Dual-boot System with both XP 32-bit and Win7 64-bit, so have gone through the full cycle in both.
Some interesting points :
# Its best to disable windows update and Remote Desktop connections before you start installation of amBX software. I believe this has something to do with C++ which amBX insists on installing even if you have a more updated version.
# Install the amBX Installer 1.10 from the amBX website which has Philips built-in. If you install 2.0, it does not contain Philips Device Drivers, so there will be no hardware folder in your Program Files' ambx folder. For Win7, follow the Wiki for the customised Installation Procedure.
# Install and Update all through Control Panel
# VERY IMP : A LOT OF OTHER PROGRAMS/GAMES WILL LIKELY CRASH OR REFUSE TO START AFTER YOUR INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE. TO FIX THAT, WHENEVER YOU COME ACROSS ANOTHER PROGRAM/GAME CRASHING ON STARTING IT(USUALLY WITH A STACK_901A OR SOME SIMILAR CRASH REPORT ERROR), THEN GO TO TASK MANAGER AND DISABLE amBXFXGEN.EXE. THIS FILE SEEMS TO CONFLICT WITH MOST OTHER PROGRAMS IN MEMORY. START THE OTHER PROGRAM/GAME, AND THEN MINIMISE IT AND DOUBLE CLICK ON THIS FILE IN PROGRAM FILES TO RESTART THIS amBXFXGEN FILE IF YOU WISH USE AMBX IN A GAME. ELSE JUST LET IT REMAIN OFF AND USE OTHER PROGRAMS AS USUAL IF YOU DONT WANT TO USE AMBX IN THAT PROGRAM/GAME.
# Philips Control Device Panel as well as amBX control panel are a little buggy, sometimes you see your amBX components in them, sometimes you dont, its OK if you dont as long as ILLUMINATE or AURORA SYNTH. give you amBX effects. The Lights will work OK in the game if you have amBXFXGEN.exe enabled and running in memory.
Once you get past these teething problems, its a wonderful accessory to have, although mine has already experienced some LED failure in the Wallwasher Unit's middle light array, but it has not put me off what is definitely cool addition to gaming, videos and music alike.
