So...in August the amBX team took their newly created amBX mod of Quake 4 Multiplayer to QuakeCon 2007. Pleased to report that our booth was extremely busy and the mod with integrated amBX effects was well received. But don't just take our word for it!

"My favourite part of the system was the fans. What the fans do is allow you feel the air displaced during explosions, feel the bullets as they whiz by your head or feel the air on your face as you fly over the battlefield in a troop transport or slide around the corners in an open-air racing machine."

“When you pick up a health pack, the lights show white, when you’re being shot, they turn to red, in frequency with the damage you’re taking – and it’s direction. But is it all real? It might sound like some fantasy of a science fiction fan, but it does indeed work. And the fans seem to like it. Which is a good sign, considering that Quakecon attendees are among the most discerning."

"Before going to QuakeCon this year, I went to their site to check out the event's sponsors. I appreciate those companies that help put on QuakeCon, and try to support them when I can. Of all the sponsors, there was one in particular that I thought, "Do we really need this?" That one was the Philips amBX. Lights and fans and rumble, oh my! Fans blowing in your face, strobing lights, and a rumble wrist pad just sounded gimmicky and annoying. Oh how wrong I was. Like a raccoon caught in a foil factory, once the beautiful shiny material was in my hand I was determined not to let it go. The level of immersion you get from just playing 30 seconds with the setup makes you never want to go without amBX again."

"The Quake 4 implementation of the amBX system was really cool. Each of the four speakers has a light on top that glows to match your in game environment. The fans come into play when you get hit; you feel the wind from bullets and blades as they fly by. My favorite part was when you are flying; you actually feel the wind in your face thanks to the surround fans."
